Two-man exhibition with Soh Hiap Chin, Victoria Memorial Hall, Singapore
 
Traveled by land and sea for about two months and arrived in London in August 1961
 
Worked for two years to sustain himself and pay his way while studying art at night at the Central School of Art and Crafts in London (now University of the Arts London, Central Saint Martins) where he was taught by leading artists including Morris Kastleman, Joe Tilson and Bernard Cohen

Moved to Birmingham and enrolled at the Birmingham College of Art & Design, which he attended under a full scholarship
